Dani Pedrosa Blog: Arrived in Austin

daniblog11Hello, and a good-day to you all. For us it is still very early here in Austin. We arrived at the hotel at 4am yesterday. We should not have arrived so late but there were delays, What can you do!

Just before coming out here we had a couple of quiet days. We continued doing some work on the physical side but we also had time to spend on other things. For example, I went to the Geneva Motor Show. It is always enjoyable getting a glimpse of new cars and prototypes. In fact we saw the new Honda NSX prototype.

But now we have to get back to work. You know that we don´t have much time to get over the jet lag. On the plane we normally try to get used to the timetable that we find when we land. That means if we arrive in Austin at night, as was the case this time, we try to sleep a little on the plane to adjust our body clocks. We can´t do much else.

Today we will prepare the practice schedule over the next few days, and we will also try to go round the track on the scooter, or if necessary on foot. The important thing is to get our first contact with the circuit and discover the state of the tarmac itself, how wide it is, the ups and downs…

When the circuit is new in the calendar you have to take things slowly. You have to set the bike up little by little, and the riders have to get used to the lines that are taken. So the objective is to learn things about the circuit that we did not know before going there, this is more important than testing things on the bike. I am sure that the times that we set tomorrow will be very different from the ones at the end of the week.

I will give you all the details next week but on Friday we will fly to Indianapolis to see a round of the American Supercross Championship. I am a big fan of this competition and being able to take advantage of our visit to the USA is fantastic because normally we cannot find time for this type of thing because time is precious in our testing and racing calendar.

A big hug,
Dani.
