The Junior Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol starts with their new venture. Led by former 125cc world champion Emilio Alzamora, with the support of the sponsors CatalunyaCaixa and Repsol, along with support from RACC, today they launched the machinery that has one main objective, which is to bring up new stars of the Spanish sport. With Alex Rins as the main favorite for the 125cc category since he’s the only rider left who was able to win a CEV race last season and a teammate with a bright future, Alex Marquez, brother of the 125cc World Champion, the structure of the Junior Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol is underway. The third team member is the Italian rider Pecco Bangaia who joins the new project and competes with his teammates in the orange color of their sponsors.

After today’s practice Alex Rins has been the fastest rider of the category and will face tomorrow’s race with a lot of determination. With a good pace he was the only one able to ride in the low ’49s. His teammate Alex Marquez, second-fastest today, was on his heels all the time and will join him on the front row tomorrow.

ALEX RINS: “The first practice session went quite well. With used tires we set a good pace, then we’ve continued to improve and with new tires we got down to a time of 1’48.9 seconds. In the afternoon the wind became stronger and this affected our riding and the laptimes. The race will be more or less at the same time as the second session today, so we’ll probably also have wind. Where it affected me the most was in turn 4 and the two quick ones. If it’s not too strong the bike goes well and we have a clear setting for the race, but if there is wind we have a problem with the gas on which the mechanics are already working.”

ALEX MARQUEZ: “The bike went very well and I have to thank the team. In the first session we were faster than in the afternoon because there was not so much wind. In the second session there was a stronger wind and it was more difficult to set good times, but we could get a good setting for these conditions. Tomorrow in the race we will try to fight for the podium and, if possible, for the victory. If there is no wind we have the settings of the bike quite clear and if there’s wind after all I think we have a good setup, but we can still take advantage of the warm-up tomorrow to improve it.”
