The Spaniard of the Leopard Racing Team finishes the 2017 Grand Prix in seventh position, maintaining an unchanged advantage over his rivals in the championship.

At 11:01 local time, the traffic lights of the Mugello race went out, the sixth race of 2017 getting underway. The duo of the Leopard Racing Team started from the first (Mir) and the ninth (Loi) rows. Mir’s front row coming after yesterday’s miracle, where he landed on the front row with just a single flying lap as the flag came out.

From the beginning of the race it was immediately apparent that achieving victory would be no simple matter. A swarm of riders all fought for the lead, using a variety of different lines in every corner. Joan Mir fought with a knife between his teeth for the top five.

Turn 1 saw almost constant action, riders heading in six abreast. Palma de Mallorca’s talent fell to 9th position after contact with Binder, but in just one corner he returned the favour to take command of the race with a big break at San Donato.

Mir was good at keeping up and making no mistakes. he Spaniard cut the finish line in seventh  position, bringing home more prestigious points in the World Championship, taking advantage of the traffic that relegated his rivals to the edge of the points zone. Mir climbs to 108, leaving the gap of 34 points unchanged to his pursuers. And we’re just one-third of the season, but the World Championship does not know a break: in a week we run to Montmelo!

#36 Joan MIR – 7th:

“I am not very happy for today’s seventh position, but I’m also happy because in this race the main goal was to pick up points: I knew perfectly well that here at Mugello the race would be a madness … but not like this! It was a really crazy race: there were several overtaking moves and many contacts, on a couple of occasions I even risked falling off. I tried to do my best, hoping in the last laps to be a bit ahead. We are always leading in the rankings with the same gap, and now we head to tracks I like.”
