In a hot qualifying session at the Circuito de Jerez, Xavi Vierge took a promising seventh place on the grid. Marcel Schrötter struggled in the afternoon after a strong morning and finished 17th.

On the second day in the south of Spain, the sun was shining bright and temperatures rose to 30° Celsius in the afternoon.

Xavi Vierge took advantage of the 45-minute final free practice session in the cooler morning to fully concentrate on his race pace. The currently 6th in the World Championship managed to deliver a constant rhythm and finished 15th with tyres that had 30 laps on them. In qualifying, the 21-year-old then attacked for a fast lap time and secured the seventh starting position for his home Grand Prix with a time of 1’42.404. Tomorrow he starts from the third row, which he shares with Sam Lowes and Romano Fenati.

Xavi Vierge:

It was a solid day in general for us. This morning we made a little step forward on the setting and we found a really good pace for the race. That was the goal for FP3. Then in Qualifying I tried to push for a good lap but I missed one tenth to set a really good time. Anyway, seventh position on the grid for tomorrows race is ok. It will be a very long race and the most important thing for tomorrow is the pace. I think we’ve made a great work during all the weekend, focussing on the pace and I think we are now ready to fight in the race.”
