The Moto2 Qatar GP race had a big favourite and that favourite has fulfilled his role. British Sam Lowes started the race as the rival to beat and only Italian Marco Bezzecchi was able to overshadow him in the first laps of the race. Since the third lap, Lowes has left everyone behind and set the script for a race in which Remy Gardner finished second and Fabio di Giannantonio was third. The Italian had been eighth during the race, but little by little he has been climbing positions until he snatched the last podium place from Bezzecchi on the last lap. Next week, the intermediate category riders face a new challenge at the Losail circuit, the Doha Grand Prix.

Aron Canet has opened 2021 with three points under the Qatari moon, after a race in which the adherence of the track has played a key role in his performance. In the early stages, the Valencian rider, unable to make the most of his potential, dropped to seventeenth place. Later on, the grip has improved for him and he has started to make up ground with his rivals until he caught up with the group that was fighting for the top 10 and finished in thirteenth position. His teammate Albert Arenas has lived a race with a similar script and it was not until the final phase of the race that he could begin to regain positions. Arenas begins his jump to the intermediate category with a twenty-first position from which he aspires to continue improving next week.

12+1 Aron Canet (+17,527):
“It was a very complicated race, we made some changes to the front end and it hurt us in what is our strong point, the braking. I couldn’t brake hard, I fought with riders who brake much less. We were a bit tired at the beginning, with the new tyres, because my rivals had more grip at the start of the race. But in the final phase I had better pace, I was able to catch up with the group that was fighting for top 10, but it was not enough for me to fight to win the race, which is the goal this year.”

21st Albert Arenas (+30.708):
“We finished the first Grand Prix in Moto2 after a weekend from less to more. We have managed to finish the race and extract good information. In the final part of the test¨, I was riding more comfortable, I understood things that will help us for the following weekend. I am not happy with the result, but we are going to get the positive and improve for the future.”
