Xavi Vierge 11th in Misano qualifying

Despite his injured hand, Xavi Vierge secured eleventh place in the fourth row with flying colours.

Intact GP-Kalex rider Xavi Vierge’s plan to fully be present in qualifying and to deliver a quick lap largely came to fruition. The 21-year-old, who had a small crash in FP3 this morning, can hardly settle for the eleventh spot on the grid, although it was an excellent performance considering his handicap. The ambitious Spaniard did his best to break the 1’38 mark for the first time this weekend with a fast 1’37.774, finishing just 0.060 seconds behind Joan Mir in the fourth row.

Xavi Vierge:

It’s a difficult situation for us because I have this limitation with my hand. We can’t do so many laps, but especially here it takes time to find your rhythm and catch up with the other riders. The others have five, six laps to set a fast time, but I only have the chance of two or three. We have to accept this situation and we will fight with it. I give my maximum in every session. We can still be satisfied because it is not easy to achieve such a time with this injury. I think it went well but the Moto2 level is higher and all riders are super fast. I’m just disappointed to have this injury but I’m happy about the rest because my feeling with the bike is good and the whole team is doing a great job. Now we’re going to focus on tomorrow’s race. That’s important. I’m trying to get some rest. It wasn’t a bad qualifying and it’s not a bad grid position for the race either. As in all other races we will give our best. It will be a long race with 25 laps, but I’m not thinking about that much today. I’m trying to make a good start to keep fighting with the fastest.
