Axel Pons Undergoes Surgery To Remove Pins
Pons Racing rider Axel Pons was submitted to the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus de Barcelona on Wednesday for scheduled surgery to take pins, which were inserted in 2008, out of each leg.
Pons, who will ride a Moto2 bike for the Pons Kalex team next season, had three operations in 2008 as a result of extensive injuries sustained in a 125cc crash at the Jerez circuit during the third round of last season’s CEV Buckler Spanish Championship.
“I hope to be ready for training in Valencia in early December, and then be 100% for the start of pre-season next year,” explained Pons after his operation on Wednesday. “The operation appears to have gone well and I hope to be able to put my full weight on my legs soon. Before the operation I was quite good, but there was always the risk that if I suffered another crash the pins could cause me further injury.”
