Campinoti: Stability the Pramac basis for 2010
It was a campaign of mixed results for Pramac Racing in 2009, with the satellite Ducati team taking a chance by fielding two MotoGP rookies in Mika Kallio and Niccolò Canepa. The Finn secured the Rookie of the Year award whilst Canepa found his first season in the premier class difficult.
Aleix Espargaró will line up alongside Kallio next year after impressing with four guest appearances on the Desmosedici GP9 in 2009, and Paolo Campinoti hopes the knowledge gained during the season will help make 2010 a more consistent one for Pramac.
“For us it has been what we can call a season of study,” said the team boss. “We have adjusted many things. The main target was to create some stability in the team so I think this has been achieved. For next season we are looking to keep the two riders we have now, and the team will remain the same. So we’re very happy and I think all the problems we’ve seen in the last half of the season will be better for next year. If we can win the Rookie of the Year again it will be very good, because there are many new riders joining MotoGP.”
Campinoti is also optimistic about what can be achieved in the off-season, and continued, “We expect both riders will improve, especially Espargaró, as he hasn’t had much of a season, just a few races. So we think it’ll be very helpful, especially for him to have the full training period ahead that he can really get more confidence with the bike.”
