First and third row start for Tuenti Derbi boys
Good news and bad for the Tuenti Racing Derbi team at the mythical circuit of Le Mans, scene of the Monster Energy Grand Prix of France, as Pol Espargaró will start from second position on the grid while Efrén Vázquez, after experiencing a lot of problems with his race set-up, will take up a slot on the third row. Espargaró was comfortable and consistent with his pace and fronted the time sheets for virtually the whole session, just losing out in the tussle for pole position in the final minutes to Nico Terol. Efrén Vázquez negotiated a tough day without being able to optimise his settings to improve his feeling around the complicated and demanding French layout.
2. POL ESPARGARÓ, 1.43.864
“Pole position has eluded me again and remains an objective for the future event though it is clear that there are no points for being first on the grid and the important moment to be fast is tomorrow. My speed is good, fast and consistent but at the moment of truth I was missing a little bit of something to lower my lap-times even further. I could hit the 1.43s again and be faster than the circuit record, but I still wasn’t able to grab that top spot. I am optimistic for the race and I believe we can fight for the victory; our nearest threat has to be Nico Terol. I’m sure it will be a hard race and we will try to get a good result.”
12. EFRÉN VÁZQUEZ, 1.45.306
“I made a mistake in the second part of the session and paid for it with a lowly position on the grid. I went for some changes to the suspension and instead of giving me the results I wanted it ended up being worse. I’ve had a lot of problems all weekend and could not get comfortable like I felt in Qatar and Jerez, but I still hope we can find a solution for the race and challenge for places near the front. Le Mans is not really a circuit that suits my style, so if we can’t go for the podium then I hope we can obtain as many points as possible.”
