Elias aiming to improve at Silverstone
Toni Elias remains only partially satisfied with his fifth place at Mugello, a result that extended his championship lead by a point over Shoya Tomizawa, but determined that it proves to be his worst finish of the season. The Moto2 series leader cannot wait to get on with the task of improving on it at Silverstone, with the belief that he has the ability, team support and machinery to finish on the podium or even win at every circuit. Silverstone is unknown territory for the entire grid but Elias remains resolute in his determination to be the standout rider in the first season of Moto2.
Toni Elias “I’m still a little bit disappointed with fifth place at Mugello. It was definitely not an easy weekend for us there and the result was positive considering the fact that we took a point more than Tomizawa, I rode a clever race, but it is still playing on my mind. It is a competitive field and it is easy to drop positions so I hope we can make it the worst result of the season – that would be perfect. We go to Silverstone with the hunger and desire to win again. I only know the track from playing the F1 game on the Playstation, although it has been slightly modified for this weekend so it is a new track for everybody. It is the first of three races in a row so it will be important to perform consistently.”
Fausto Gresini “We salvaged what we could from Mugello but Elias’ performance was not reflective of his true potential. We struggled in practice and luckily managed second place on the grid, which contributed towards a positive result in the end. Toni picked up a point more than his closest rival in the championship so that is a good thing, although the feeling was a little subdued in the garage after the race. The team will bounce back with determination at Silverstone. We travel to England feeling confident and convinced that the result at Mugello will be the worst of the season. Nobody knows the circuit so we will try to make sure our professionalism shows through – I’m sure Toni will do the same.
