Rain makes first look at Silverstone difficult for Elias

 In Moto2

Typically unpredictable English weather welcomed the Moto2 riders to the legendary Silverstone circuit today, with incessant rain falling throughout the opening free practice session. Current series leader Toni Elias struggled to get anywhere near the pace at the front today and faces an important day tomorrow as he looks to improve on 22nd place.

Toni Elias (22nd 2’ 31” 407): “It’s obviously not a good result for us today but all we can do is accept it and look ahead to tomorrow. It is only the first session and we will improve. If it continues to rain we will get better and if it stops then we will finally get the chance to fully understand the circuit. The weather is the same for everybody though so we’ll have to wait and see what it brings tomorrow, but I am still confident. ”

Fausto Gresini: “it was a negative start for us but we have to stay calm and help the riders improve and give them what they need. I am sure they will be competitive again tomorrow. We will analyse the data tonight and see what we can do to make sure Toni is competitive. The rain is no excuse because we should be on the pace in any conditions and he was quick in the wet at Jerez, so he should be quick here at Silverstone too – unfortunately he didn’t have a good feeling with the bike today and it is difficult to push hard when you don’t have that confidence. I am not worried because we have a lot of room for improvement and Toni is used to not starting well on a Friday! ”
