Barbera salvages four points from difficult race

Victory from pole was the order of the day in the Dutch TT Assen, as the winners of all three categories did so from the front spot on the grid. Jorge Lorenzo was the man to triumph in MotoGP, opening up an early gap and escaping in the same way as he did last weekend at Silverstone. However, Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner hunted him down after five laps, making the race a more interesting affair. After that, Lorenzo broke away once more, as the other two completed the podium. With Spanish winners in two of the three classes, the home race for a large section of the grid -at Montmeló next Sunday- could be cause for further celebration.

Despite starting fourteenth on the grid, Páginas Amarillas Aspar rider Héctor Barberá was able to move up the field with a good start onboard his satellite Ducati. He was up to thirteenth by the end of lap one. Then came an intense battle with Loris Capirossi and Mika Kallio, with whom he exchanged numerous passes throughout the course of the race. The Spaniard eventually placed twelfth taking four points and setting himself up for his home race next weekend.

12th Héctor Barberá: “After the way the practice sessions went, I knew that today would be a difficult race. We made a change this morning to improve cornering, in particular on the first section, but there weren’t any big steps forward. This class is very competitive, so you can’t lose your way in any session or you will be at a disadvantage. I never felt comfortable on the Ducati this weekend, and the electronics had a lot to do with that. I’m still not on top of it. I went to give it my all in the race, despite the setbacks, and I can at least be satisfied with my performance and the battle with Capirossi and Kallio. I found some solutions in the race, and I will look to put them into practice at Montmeló.”
