Simon looking to continue form after deserved week off

After three races in a row followed by a two-day test in Aragón and just a week to recover the Moto2 riders head for their next challenge this weekend, the German Grand Prix. Thankfully for the teams and riders in the smaller categories the Sachsenring race is the last before a summer break, which lasts until the Czech Grand Prix in the middle of August. After the challenge of Silverstone, Assen and Montmeló, three long and fast circuits, the eighth round of the season takes place at a tight and twisty track, which is also the shortest on the Moto2 calendar. There will be little room for manoeuvre for the 41 riders on track and even less margin for error.

Mapfre Aspar riders Julián Simón and Mike Di Meglio have had sufficient time to recharge their batteries after their most recent outing, which was a productive test session at Aragón. As well as getting to know the track the pair were able to complete further set-up work on their Suter machines, which they have been making progress with in recent weeks. Julián picked up his third podium of the season on it last time out and currently lies third in the championship, whilst Mike was unfortunate to be taken out of the race by another rider in Spain but scored good results at Assen and Silverstone. The Spaniard and the Frenchman have both won at Sachsenring in the 125cc and will be looking to carry that form into the first ever Moto2 race there this Sunday.

Julián Simón: “The week off has been good for us because we have been able to recover our strength after three races in a row. I am satisfied with the form we found over those three races and with the way we followed it up at the Motorland test. It was useful to refine a few details on the Suter and now we go to Germany in determined mood. Sachsenring is a track I love and it suits my riding style. I am looking forward to getting there and discovering Sachsenring on a Moto2. The main objective will be to repeat the podium from Barcelona, although being a little more ambitious I would love to fight for my first win of the year. I think it will be more important at Sachsenring than anywhere else to qualify well because it is so narrow and the first few laps will be really tough.”
