Gadea takes encouraging 7th fastest laptime, Pons not fit to ride
Under a suffocating heat the Grand Prix of Germany at the circuit of Sachsenring has begun today, with the shortest track of the season for the Moto2 championship. And it has been a positive start for the 40 Tenerife Pons team. Both Sergio Gadea and Damian Cudlin, who replaces the still injured Axel Pons this weekend, had a good session. Gadea has been at the front during the entire practice and finished in 7th, a little more than half a second slower than the best laptime. The Valencian had a very good feeling with his Pons Kalex, better after the good work he’s done last week in the official test at Motorland de Aragon, which makes him very confident for the rest of the weekend.
#40. Sergio Gadea: 7º – 1 ‘ 26 ‘ 869
“I am satisfied with what we’ve done today. We started to work with hard tires, I put on the front tyre I will use in the race and qualifying and it went well. I have been amongst the front runners all session and that is positive. I hope it won’t rain tomorrow and that I’m able to continue improving with our work and try out the softer tyre to get some faster laptimes in the qualifying.
In Aragon we made some changes that helped us. I had some movement of the bike when entering corners which disturbed the line and sent me off the track which hindered me in braking late enough. We have worked on that problem a lot and now I’m faster at those points and it allows me to take the corners better. It’s just to get the feeling, but I am satisfied with where we are at the moment. When we improve this just a little more and working with the tyres we should find that half a second that we need to start from first row.”
