Simon looking for good start from front row
Qualifying practice for the Moto2 class was put back fifteen minutes today after an incident in the MotoGP session but it did little to affect the attitude or performance of the riders, who embarked on another entertaining battle for supremacy.
There were differing fortunes for the two Mapfre Aspar riders today, with Julián Simón providing the positives for the team – starting with the second fastest time in morning free practice. He maintained his position amongst the pacesetters this afternoon and a fast lap on his eighteenth attempt was enough for a repeat of his fourth place from yesterday.
4th Julián Simón 1.25.758 (21 laps): “I am really happy with the gird position and the feeling with the bike. The main focus for tomorrow is to get a good start and I’ll be concentrating hard on that, to get a good position into the first turn, because after that my race pace should be enough to stick with Iannone. I expect Elías and one or two other riders will be there too but I don’t think the lead group will be any bigger than six or seven riders. I won here last year so I hope I can have another good result and stay in the fight for the championship. I have been setting similar lap times to Iannone all weekend although he was able to open a gap with his fastest lap. I’ll try to stick with him tomorrow and do my best to beat him. We have a clear idea about our set-up and tyre choice so now it’s just a case of waiting for the race.”
