Barbera excited about first look at Laguna Seca

As the summer enters late July there is just one more piece of business for the MotoGP riders to take care of before heading for a well-earned holiday. The USGP, which takes place this weekend at the picturesque Laguna Seca circuit in California, features the top Grand Prix category only and the teams headed directly there no sooner had they packed the freight following the last race in Germany on Sunday evening. At just 3.610km in length the American circuit is the shortest on the calendar but is far from the easiest and it has played host to some of the most memorable battles in recent MotoGP history.

Whilst one of the privileges of stepping up to the premier-class is the opportunity to test yourself against the best riders in the world, another is to test yourself against the best circuits and Laguna Seca certainly falls into that category. Páginas Amarillas Aspar rookie Héctor Barberá is excited to make his debut at the legendary venue and whilst he knows it won’t be an easy task and that he will have to squeeze maximum performance out of his Ducati at such a short circuit, he is full of confidence and motivation. His performance in the last two races has given him valid reason for optimism as the Spaniard continues his MotoGP education.

Héctor Barberá: “From what I have seen on the television Laguna Seca looks like a really special circuit. I’ll spend the next few days watching past races so that at least I have done a little homework when I get there. The objective for the next race is no different to normal – to try and finish in the top ten. We have done it for the past two races so there is no reason why we can’t continue to look upwards and aim for more every day. As the season progresses we are working better because I am getting to know the bike and in the past two races I have felt really comfortable with the Ducati so I want to start thinking about even better results. I know that isn’t an easy task but if we continue with the job we’re doing now I think we’ll be ready for anything at Laguna Seca. I just can’t wait to arrive and to get out on the track. I’ve heard it’s a difficult and scary circuit but I am highly motivated.”
