Bautista lights up British Superbike round at Brands Hatch
In a special event to celebrate Suzuki’s 50th anniversary in racing and the 25th anniversary of the GSX-R Alvaro Bautista headed to Brands Hatch for this weekend to witness the racing of the British Superbike championship and do some demo laps on his MotoGP bike for the fans.
To get a feeling for the British track that he’d never seen before, he went around the 2.3-mile Grand Prix circuit with the safety car in the morning when the track was still wet.
Alvaro Bautista: “I really found the laps in the car good fun; Brands Hatch has so much character with the ups and downs and the blind sections so I can’t wait until this afternoon when I can do the laps on the Rizla Suzuki. This circuit in places is similar to Laguna Seca where we raced last because of those sections, so I am hoping that it dries up this afternoon so I can push for the fans here. When I come to England the crowds here are always very supportive and this makes me happy, so this weekend I can repay them with the demonstration laps and hopefully meet some of them during the pit walk.”
And Alvaro did exactly what he promised, meeting a lot of the fans at the track and getting his bike around it for the first time in the afternoon. Alongside him were John Reynolds and James Haydon who also lapped the Grand Prix circuit on the Rizla Suzuki MotoGP GSV-R800 four stroke machines.
Alvaro will do some more demo laps before the race tomorrow.
Alvaro Bautista: “The track is so much fun to ride on the Rizla Suzuki, and I did the laps this morning in the car, but that was just awesome. I think tomorrow, now that I have more idea of the circuit and the blind sections, that we can go even faster. It has been great to meet the British fans and I am looking forward to pushing it harder tomorrow.”
