Simon looks to attack at Brno after recharging batteries over holidays

A three-week break was barely enough time to recharge their batteries following the intensity of the opening half to the inaugural Moto2 season but the teams and riders return to action this weekend for the Czech Republic Grand Prix. Brno is ready to welcome the new intermediate category for the first time as it hosts the ninth round of a season that now moves into its most gruelling stage, with four intercontinental appointments alongside the regular trans-European road trips. There are just nine races left to decide who becomes the first ever Moto2 World Champion, with several riders in with a chance.

Despite being 59 points adrift of the current leader the open nature of the eight races so far mean Mapfre Aspar rider Julián Simón can still hold hopes of entering a title race that looks likely to go to the final race at Valencia. Julián currently lies fourth overall and is determined to improve on that after spending his summer holiday reflecting on a disappointing weekend last time out at Sachsenring. The Spaniard finished second at Brno last year in the 125cc race and is hoping for at least a repeat of that result on Sunday.

Julián Simón: “The holidays have been a good thing for me because I was able to take a step back and think over the crash at the last race in Germany. I have really been able to switch off and recharge my batteries although I’ve worked hard on my physical preparation and we’ve worked on the bike too. I am really motivated about Brno and looking forward to getting back to work. Last year I finished second there and it’s a circuit a like a lot so I think we can repeat that result on Sunday. As always we’ll work hard from Friday to get the bike set up and try to be amongst the frontrunners in the race. As we have seen in the first half of the championship it won’t be easy because there are always surprises in Moto2 and we’re all very close together, but my objective is to close the gap to the top of the championship.”
