Terol looking to fight for victory from 2nd position on the grid

The top handful of riders continued to distance themselves from the rest of the field today as series leader Marc Márquez smashed the pole record by 1.2 seconds with a lap of 1’48.124. Bancaja Aspar pair Nico Terol and Bradley Smith were right behind him and even though the Spaniards were the only two to break the 1’49 barrier the British teenager is determined to take the race to them tomorrow.

High temperatures and low grip levels led to more than the odd scare today, as well as a few crashes, and it promises to be a dramatic race tomorrow. It looks unlikely that 1’48 lap times will be set in the race and as such it should be a six or seven way battle, with both Bancaja Aspar riders looking to repeat past podium finishes here at the Brickyard.

2nd Nico Terol 1.48.603 (17 laps): “Considering how hot it was today the pace was pretty quick. The track was very slippery and I had to be careful because as you saw a few riders went down. Marc did a couple of really good laps but outr pace is quite similar and I think if we get a good start we can be fighting with him. I’m happy because we achieved our objective, which was to qualify on the front row. My Aprilia has improved compared to the first day and if we can take another step in the warm up that would be fantastic. We’re riding on the limit this year and that suits me because that’s when I’m at my best. My objective now is to get a good start and give it everything from the first lap to make sure we’re fighting for the win at the end.”
