Good 6th place for Sergio Gadea while Axel Pons takes his first Moto2 points
Yet another intense and complicated race of Moto2 and under hardest weather conditions with incredible heat the riders of the Tenerife 40 Pons team did a great race at the legendary Indianapolis circuit. Sergio Gadea was able to stay with the group fighting for 6th position and managed to leave his rivals behind over the finish line. Gadea got his good rhythm back as he was able throughout the weekend to stay with the front guys after two GPs full of problems where he couldn’t get the results he wanted.
His teammate Axel Pons also did a great race in which he managed to storm through the field. The young rider from Barcelona started the race from 28th position and after only a few laps he was already within reach of point scoring positions. At the end he finished the race in 14th, scoring his first points of the season after he missed three races due to a crash in Assen where he injured both wrists.
The MotoGP championship will continue this weekend at the Misano circuit, leaving the riders only little time to rest.
#40. Sergio Gadea: 6º
“It was a complicated race. I started very well the first time and also at the second start after the red flag although there was a moment when he almost ran into a couple of riders and almost crashed. I started to pass them and lost some time in that incident. When I recovered from that I was a bit further behind and in the end only managed to finish 6th. In any case it’s a great result after the last race weekends. The first goal was to go better than in Brno and I did that. But it still makes me a bit angry when I think about how much better it could have been. The team has done a great job and they made it possible for me to have a great feeling with the bike which enabled me to go faster again”.
#80. Axel Pons: 14º
“Finally we reached our goal. The main target was to get points and after starting from the back of the grid we did that. I’m satisfied because the season is very difficult, we had a lot of ups and downs and we didn’t know what was wrong. In this class it’s very difficult to get points, even more so when you start from behind. I think we’ve done a great comeback. The key was the first few laps. I could follow the rhythm of the other guys quite easily and little by little I improved and I could pass the other riders. The last few laps were very difficult, the bike slid around a lot and it was hard to control it. I finished only a few races with this bike, so I need more experience to manage the worn tyres. I tried to defend my position as good as possible in these conditions and in the end I managed to keep it. This is the way we need to follow, little by little I reach the point scoring positions and soon we can start working towards higher finishes.”
