Simon optimistic for rest of season
There is no time to rest for the Moto2 teams and riders as Indianapolis rolls into Misano, the second of intensive back-to-back racing weekends. The World Championship paddock heads to Italy for the second time this season although this time for the San Marino Grand Prix, which to the relief of the riders after the demands of the Indianapolis track surface, takes place at the flatter, smoother Misano. The top four positions in the Moto2 standings remained unmoved after last weekend but with seven races remaining anything is possible.
Mapfre Aspar rider Julián Simón travels to Misano with the top step of the podium firmly in his sights. The Spaniard already has four podiums to his name this season – two seconds and two thirds – and after narrowly missing out at Indianapolis he is hoping to make the most of his improved feeling with the new Suter on Sunday. The 125cc World Champion, who took victory on his way to the title here last year, knows that he is in the right shape to challenge for wins from no until the end of the season and believes it is just a matter of time.
Julián Simón: “With every day that passes we have a better bike at our disposal, in terms of the way it is set up, so that has to give us optimism and means we can’t set our targets below the podium. We did a great job at Indianapolis and we’re more competitive every weekend. Having said that we have to keep working a lot and our main objective is to do our job well again and be at the front, fighting for the podium and I’m sure that first win will come sooner or later. Misano is a circuit I like quite a lot, I won there last year and I’m sure I can have another good race this year so I hope I can be fighting for the win. The result at Indy was a boost of confidence for the team and for myself so with circuits coming up that I like I’m sure we can be celebrating a win before long.”
