Good start to the weekend for Hector Faubel

The Marc VDS Racing Team riders got their Misano race weekend off to a solid start, as Hector Faubel finished this afternoon’s free practice session seventh fastest, with Scott Redding five places further back in 12th position.

With rear grip at a premium around the Misano circuit, Faubel used the early part of the session to make changes to the set-up of his Suter MMX machine, to improve both rear traction and front-end feeling. Like all the Moto2 riders, the 27-year-old Spaniard struggled to stop the bike backing into the turns at the end of the straights, but rode around the problem to record the seventh fastest time on his final lap.

Both Faubel and Redding were less than one second adrift of the fastest lap time of the session, set by Alex De Angelis, and both Marc VDS riders are confident of closing the gap even further during tomorrow’s free practice and qualifying sessions.

Hector Faubel #55: 7th – 1’40.564
“We had a good session today. Like everyone we had some issues with rear traction, I was struggling to get the bike to hook up out of the turns early on. We also had some problems on corner entry, with the rear trying to come round on me all the time. We made some changes to the set-up of the bike, mainly the front suspension settings, and there was a little improvement. We need to change the gearing slightly tonight, as it was a little short in second gear when the bike was banked over and the rolling circumference of the tyre reduced, but this is a quick fix. Overall the feeling with the bike was good, the lap time was good and, although I’m not feeling 100 percent at the moment, I’m confident we can go even faster tomorrow.”

Michael Bartholemy: Team Manager
“Both riders made a good start to the weekend today. Hector steadily improved both his set-up and his lap times throughout the session and Scott looked all set to return to the top of the timesheet before the bike cut out. I am sure that both riders will continue to improve tomorrow, but they need to avoid getting embroiled in the battle of the Italians that seems to have kicked off this afternoon, both in qualifying and the race!”
