Good race for Espargaro on bad day for racing

 In MotoGP, News

After the unfortunate Saturday qualifying session that saw both riders of the Pramac Racing Team starting the race from the back, Aleix Espargarò finished the race in eleventh position while Kallio retired ten laps from the end when he was occupying the fourteenth position. During the race both riders tried to overtake some positions, especially Aleix was able to fight with Melandri, Barberà, Bautista and De Puniet for the eighth position, but unfortunately due to a small error while he was trying to pass Melandri, saw him lose the contact from the group and had to settle for the eleventh position. Mika had managed to recover three positions due to falling of Simoncelli, Capirossi and Hayden, but he came back in the pits ten laps from the end because he had some grip problems on the rear wheel. A difficult race made even sadder by the news of the death of the Japanese rider Shoya Tomizawa.

Marco Rigamonti – Aleix Espargarò Track Engineer
“Aleix’s bike was going pretty well, although he could not be very fast in the second sector of the track. We could get a better result if we was starting from a better starting grid position, unfortunately we had some problems yesterday in the qualifying and this has enabled us to gain a prominent position. We’ll try to get in Aragon a better result.”

Aleix Espargarò – Pramac Racing Team – 11th in the race – 13th in the World Championship
“I really like the race, I fought with the other riders even if I did not get a good result. I could be very fast in the third sector of the track but I could not stay close to the others in the first and second sector. I saw that Bautista was behind me and had a faster lap pace than mine. I made him overtake me with the idea to go behind him to recover some other positions. Unfortunately, while I was trying to pass Melandri, to avoid the contact, I went a little out of line. This made me lose a bit of space from the other riders. After that I pass De Puniet four laps from the end, I settled eleventh place and take home five World Championship points for the season. “
