Simon highly motivated for Aragon after two consecutive podiums
The famous racing town of Alcañiz is counting down the hours until it finally presents its new circuit to the world, as MotoGP touches down at Motorland. The championship’s stand-by circuit steps into the limelight with the Grand Prix of Aragon becoming the fourth event to take place on Spanish soil, with Jerez, Barcelona and Valencia already fixtures on the calendar. The Moto2 teams and riders are looking forward to testing their machinery down the longest straight they will face this year, measuring some 1,326 metres. In total it is one of the longest circuits on the calendar but every section is designed to test the rider to the limit.
Mapfre Aspar pair Julián Simón and Mike Di Meglio headed straight from a recent test at Valencia to Aragón, having completed two sessions in the last week. Having also tested at the venue of this weekend’s race back in July they are both hoping to put their experience to good use and challenge for good results. Julián has been on the podium at the last two races and is confident of maintaining his good form until the end of the season whilst his team-mate is hoping to bounce back from his crash at Misano and return to the points.
Julián Simón: “I am very motivated going to Aragón after my second straight podium at Misano. Moving up to second in the championship also makes me want to keep this positive trend going. I got a good feeling for Motorland in July at the test and my lap times were good. I can’t wait to get back there and ride again at a place I enjoyed so much. We found a good setting there in the test so we should be able to adapt quickly on Friday. The fact it is another home race is another incentive to have a great weekend.”
