Terol well prepared for new challenge and aiming for victory
The MotoGP World Championship paddock pitches up at Aragón Motorland for the first time this weekend as the Spanish circuit prepares to host the twelfth round of the 125cc campaign. The third of four rounds to take place on Spanish soil this season, Aragón will see the return of a Friday morning practice session as well as a switch in the schedule, with Moto2 and 125cc swapping places. Whilst the circuit may be new the contenders for victory in the smallest class look certain to be the same, with Nico Terol and Marc Márquez looking to repeat their dominance from Misano but Bradley Smith and Pol Espargaró again sure to challenge.
Unlike in the bigger categories, in 125cc at least the chances are high that the championship fight could go all thew way to the final round at Valencia, a rare thing in recent seasons. Both Bancaja Aspar riders Nico Terol and Bradley Smith have their title hopes intact, with Terol fresh of the back of a battle for victory in the last race and currently lying just nine points off the series leader. The Spaniard is looking to maintain his excellent form in his third home race of the season so far this Sunday whilst Smith faces a more difficult task as he looks to close the gap to the riders at the top.
Nico Terol: “I haven’t ridden at Motorland yet but from what I saw in the CEV (Spanish Championship) race it looks great. It is wide, the corners link together and I hear it is difficult to get references. It will be very important to be concentrated from the first session on Friday morning, to find where the limits are and get my references as soon as possible so that we’re not playing catch-up all weekend. Rider ability is going to be tested and I love that kind of challenge. I am very much looking forward to it, especially after the improvements we made to the engine in the Valencia test. I am well prepared and in good shape so my objective will be to try and win.”
