Another second place for Simon at Aragon

The Moto2 race at Motorland had a reduced field almost immediately alter the lights went out, as five riders hit the deck on the opening corner. That broke up the pack, with Andrea Iannone escaping and leaving the rest of his rivals fighting for second place. Simón y Talmacsi were the main candidates, and it was that order in which the podium finishers crossed the line. Iannone was unstoppable from pole, but the race showed that there is plenty of talent hot on his heels in the Moto2 series. Twelve riders retired from the intermediate class race.

There now follows a final sprint to the line in the World Championship, with a run of three consecutive races about to arrive.

Mapfre Aspar’s Julián Simón was the best placing Spaniard at his home race, escaping a crash on the first corner that came close to taking him out of contention. He kept up the pace venid Iannone, although he was unable to match the Italian. Placing second for the third consecutive race, the Mapfre Aspar man moved up to second in the classification as a result. He awaits the next few races, held at favourable tracks, for his first Moto2 win.

2nd Julián Simón: “I am very happy with this result, because we are getting more consistent and have placed second in the last three races. We’ve been fighting for the top places all season. The fall in Germany was when I lost my chance at the title, as without it I could have been up there now. The work that we’ve been doing up to now has been fantastic -we just need a victory to cap it off. I think that we’ll get there when we improve the pace just slightly. I fought hard for this second place, much more than in the past few races, so I am happy with this and doing so at my home race. The remaining tracks are ones that I like a lot, so I’d like to string some wins together.”
