Salom brings home a great 8th place finish
After the chassis set-up problems on the Friday and Saturday for Randy Krummenacher and Luis Salom made the STIPA-Molenaar Racing GP a big step forward on race day. Particularly Luis Salom showed great progress during the warm-up session on Sunday morning. The Spaniard ended this session as tenth and Randy Krummenacher finished the warm-up session as fifthtenths.
Both STIPA-Molenaar Racing GP riders had a good start in the Grand Prix of Japan. Luis Salom climbed up from his fourteenth starting position to tenth place in the first lap. Soon the Spaniard rode into a group with four other riders including his team-mate Randy Krummenacher. The group fought for the ninth place while Salom retained tenth position. Halfway through the race the German Sandro Cortese crashed and resuming his race in the group of the STIPA-Molenaar Racing GP riders. The group was now fighting for the eighth position and Salom knew to claim this position for himself in the last lap and earned eight valuable championship points.
Luis Salom (8th): “This was a great race! I had a good start and could immediately battle for a top 10 place. Halfway through the race we were suddenly fighting for the eighth position because of Sandro Cortese crashed. It was difficult for me to pass him because I was focused on Adrian Martin, but I succeeded. I closed the gap to Martin and passed him in the final lap and claimed the eight position. This is the second time this season I finish on the eight place. In the next two tracks coming up I’m familiar with and should have an easier start than this weekend. Hopefully we can add two more top 8 results over the next two races! “
