Nico Terol goes to Sepang as championship leader and full of confidence
The 125cc teams and riders head from Tokyo to Kuala Lumpur this week for the second of three consecutive races – a 5,000km journey for a race at a 5km track, the vast Sepang International Circuit. Its long straights and fast corners are not the biggest challenge for the riders, however, with the intense heat humidity making this one of the toughest races of the season. It should make for the scene of another high octane battle as Nico Terol, Marc Márquez and Pol Espargaró fight it out for the title.
Bancaja Aspar rider Terol remains in control, having maintained the lead he secured in Aragon with a solid second place in Japan last Sunday. The Sepang layout is well suited to his riding style and the Spaniard is determined to use it to extend his current six-point lead at the top of the championship.
Nico Terol: “After such a good result in Japan I am really looking forward to Malaysia. It is tiring, but at least it means you don’t have time to lose concentration. We were close to the win at Motegi but the important thing was that we kept the series lead. Sepang is a fast and wide circuit and you need to have a clean racing line, whch is my style. We will have to make sure we do a good job in practice because the race is always a struggle here. My objective is to keep working in the good way we have set lately and be ready to fight for the win again. I’ll take a break in Kuala Lumpur for a couple of days with the team and make sure our batteries are fully charged for the weekend ahead.”
