Simon looking for more rear traction and confident for remaining races
Having packed up in Japan just a couple of days ago the Moto2 teams and riders are already in Malaysia in readiness for the fourteenth round of the season. The second stop on a three-week intercontinental adventure is one of the most demanding of the entire season, with intense heat and humidity taking its toll on the riders and their machines. A year of surprises in Moto2 is becoming increasingly less predictable and this weekend could see the crowning of the new category’s first ever World Champion.
Mapfre Aspar rider Julián Simón is the only man who can prevent that from happening and the Spaniard is now showing the kind of form in the intermediate class that saw him take the 125cc World Championship one year ago. Julian has strung four podiums together and is hoping to extend that run this weekend as he looks, more than anything, to secure second place in the final standings. His team-mate Mike Di Meglio is hoping his hard work can bear fruit with a top result at Sepang.
Julián Simón: “We are going to try something new in Malaysia that we hope will give us more rear traction, one of the biggest handicaps for our bike. We are being very consistent in this last part of the championship and I think we can be fighting for the podium or even the win once again this weekend. I feel strong both physically and mentally and I think all of the remaining races can be good for us. They will be tough because they are very close together but the objective is to keep going as we are and finish second in the championship. So far we are on the right lines. Like Motegi Sepang is a circuit I love, I won last year and I know I can do it again. I won’t drop my guard and I’ll fight to make sure it happens.”
