Carmelo Morales will ride for Racing Team Germany in last two races of 2010
With only two points to their name in this year’s Moto2 championship and two more races to go, the moment of truth has come for Racing Team Germany. With Spanish rider Carmelo Morales the team wants to attack once more in the final races in Estoril and Valencia. The aim is a Top 10 position.
The 32-year-old Spaniard is a double Formula Extreme Champion and has twice won the Superstock 1000 European Championship. And who could forget his impressive performance as a wildcard rider at the Catalunya Grand Prix this year where he qualified sixth-fastest and was about to take an excellent seventh place in the race before he spectacularly collided with Kenny Noyes on the finish line.
Carmelo Morales currently leads the Moto2 class in the Spanish Championship where he rides a Suter bike for Team Gigaset Laglisse with two wins and two second places to his name, out of four races.
Dirk Heidolf [team manager]: „He is our third rider this season, but we know what time it is for Moto2. We have to show that we as a team can achieve more than only two points, because that will be the key for the next season. There are still seven Moto2 entries up for grabs and we want to be back in 2011.
With Morales we surely have a very quick guy. Our expectations are high. Our aim is a Top 10 position. That would be more than what we achieved with our other two riders this season. Everyone’s motivated and can barely wait.”
Eskil Suter: “I’m happy that we’ve found a place for Carmelo Morales in the Racing Team Germany. Especially in Valencia Carmelo is incredibly fast. Of course there are a lot of riders who want to set some highlights at the end of the season to secure a better position on the rider market. That’s why I’m expecting two very tough races at Estoril and Valencia.
Carmelo really deserves this chance, because looking at his speed he should have been a permanent rider in the championship for a long time now.”
