Aleix Espargaro will ride in Moto2 with the Tenerife 40 Pons Team in 2011
Aleix Espargaró and the Moto2 Pons Racing Team will be together for 2011 as both parties signed the contracts yesterday. Espargaró will hope to repeat the success of Toni Elias this year who came to the new class from MotoGP and went on to become the dominating world champion of the inaugural Moto2 season.
The rider from Granollers told as.com that the advantages of the team were for one the Kalex chassis they went with in the first year of Moto2, arguable one of the best chassis on the grid, and the guarantee to work with the prestigious Santi Mulero, a long-time technical with whom he already talked long and in detail in Sepang.
The signing with Pons Racing means that the older of the Espargaró brothers will replace Sergio Gadea and become the new teammate of Axel Pons, chosing this team over the several other offers he had in the class.
Before starting the new adventure however, Aleix still has two more races to go in MotoGP where he will share the box with Carlos Checa who replaces former teammate Mika Kallio. But the riders will meet again next year as Kallio apparently found a place in the Marc VDS Moto2 Team, taking Hector Faubel’s seat.
