In today’s bwin Grande Premio de Portugal Maquinza SAG Team rider Ricky Cardús crashed out while trying to catch the riders ahead of him.

The rider from Barcelona made an excellent start to the day, riding much of the 30 minute warm-up inside the top ten. Ricky was thus feeling very confident for the race, thinking that he could fight to reach his goal of improving his recent results. However, although the start of the race was good, Ricky Cardús began to lose places until he was fighting for 22nd position. Then on the 24th lap he suffered a highside crash at the first corner. The Maquinza SAG Team will go into the final race next weekend at Valencia with big hopes of finishing the season with a points scored.

RICKY CARDÚS (MAQUINZA SAG TEAM // BIMOTA), DNF
“I was very cautious during the first laps because I didn’t want to make any mistakes, but also because it was hard to get a good lap pace. Conditions were complicated because the track was still damp in places, and this made me lose a lot of positions. After that I began to push hard and I achieved the same pace as the riders at the front but with only two laps to go I made a mistake, touching a puddle of water and I crashed. I am a little bit sad because of today’s result but my motivation will stay strong and I will push hard at Valencia.”
