300 podiums, dream races and laps of honour. 300 chequered flags, bottles of cava and emotions in every bubble. 300 press conferences, quotes and celebrations. 300 reasons to keep on going. 300 pieces of evidence that an outstanding job is being done. Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ or the Aspar Team; a story shared. Today, in the 125cc Gran Premio de la Comunidad Valenciana, the Aspar team broke the 300 podium mark. And they did it with victory from Bradley Smith.

The first came twenty-seven years ago, at the Jarama circuit, when third place in the 50cc race took Aspar to the rostrum. The most recent also arrived in Spain, in Cheste. 61 podiums as a rider (37 wins, 24 second places and 10 third places) for Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ in his fourteen years as a World Championship rider, began the story. 239 for his team in the past ten years (71 wins, 90 second places and 78 third places) took the total up to 300. Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’, the shy kid from Alzira, came into the World Championship with ambition beyond his means and the recognition that patience would pay off. Once he got the ball rolling with rostrums, there was no stopping him. He became an icon in Spanish motorsport. His Midas touch has continued in his second career, as manager and mentor to every rider who passed through the Aspar Team ranks. The team name is now synonymous with victory and success.

Nothing has been left to chance in this story of 300 podiums. “Success is based on hard work and consistency,” is the team motto. Today the Aspar Team are able to celebrate at their home circuit of Ricardo Tormo in Cheste, at which the first corner is dedicated to the enabler of this feat. The story doesn’t end here, however. Aspar is already looking forward to the next 100, 200 or 300 podiums. Those that have gone before have served their purpose, and now serve as 300 reasons to keep on picking up podiums in the future.
