Final day of testing at Estoril sees slightly more activity on track
The third and final day of the Estoril Test may not have offered vastly improved conditions but there was some activity on track, as a determined Moto2 field tried to take what advantage they could of the meeting at the Portuguese track. By the close of play 22 riders from the intermediate category had managed to register lap times, as they salvaged something of the weather-affected gathering.
Amongst those able to get some laps in as sun interspersed with light rain showers continued to make long runs difficult were Claudio Corti (Italtrans Racing), Simone Corsi (Ioda Racing Project) and Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2 Racing), and the trio all registered the same best lap of 1’42.4 which saw them share the quickest time of the final day. Alex de Angelis (JiR Moto2), Jules Cluzel (Forward Racing), Michele Pirro (Gresini Racing) and Mike di Meglio (Tech 3 Racing) were the other riders to get under 1’43.0.
Pol Espargaró (HP Tuenti Speed Up), Kenan Sofuoglu (Technomag CIP), Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing), Marc Márquez (Team Catalunya Caixa Repsol) – who celebrated his 18th birthday at the circuit – Mika Kallio (Marc VDS Racing) and Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Racing) were amongst those who also managed to post lap times on the final day. However, the fact that the wind refused to die down and that the track was slow to dry hindered any meaningful development work which had been planned from being completed.
