Pol Espargaro starting to close gap to front runners
Pol Espargaro has started to get closer to the front runners during the first day of practice for the Grand Prix of Spain, finishing 1.4 seconds behind Japanese Yuki Takahashi and less than a second behind the ‘Top 10’. The HP Tuenti rider posted the 26th fastest laptime in Jerez de la Frontera, but took a big step forward compared to his Moto2 debut two weeks ago in Qatar. The improvement from Polyccio has been substantial in the second sector, losing less than two tenths on the fastest riders, and he’ll now focus to improve further in the first and third part of the track.
26. Pol Espargaro, 1.45.447
“We are closer, but still far from where we should be. I think I’ve taken a step forward, at least in terms of laptimes and now we still miss to see this reflected in the standings. We are working hard, from the first to the last member of the team and I am sure the results will come. I have to focus on improving, especially the first and third sector of the circuit. In the second sector I’ve found a good way and I am only two tenths behind the fastest. I am optimistic and confident that we will move up. It is still hard to see myself behind, because he had two years of being among the best, but I approach this with humility and I hope that this learning process will be as short as possible.”
