Cardus salvages 20th position after qualifying crash
QMMF Racing Team riders Mashel Al Naimi and Ricky Cardús finished qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix on a high note by securing 36th and 20th spot on the starting grid. The tricky conditions took their toll from both riders as they crashed on some of the wet spots around the track, but fought on bravely and showed true determination to make the best out of the difficult situation.

“I went out wanting to do well, but I paid for it so badly with a silly crash. We lost a lot of time in the box, and when I went back out I first made sure that everything worked fine before changing the rear tire and set my mind on fighting for grid positions. I was fast, sometimes just tenths off the pole position, but then I had another big moment. I almost crashed, it was a huge moment, and when I saw other riders crashing and yellow flags in all corners I decided that it was best to collect as much information as possible for the race instead of risking to crash again. It’ll be a long and tough race tomorrow and I’m sure we can improve and reach our goals.”

“I think there were some twelve or even more crashes during the qualifying session, which means that everybody was right at the limit. Without the crashes we obviously could have finished much higher up in the classification of the qualifying, but I am still very happy with our achievements. We know that Ricky grows in the races so I’m sure he will be able to fight for world championship points again!”
