Excellent start for Salom at Le Mans
The first day of the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France has started good for the Dutch RW Racing GP team. The RW Racing GP rider Luis Salom finishes the first day at a respectable sixth position.
In the first free practice on the Friday morning Luis Salom was riding a solid session. The Spaniard rode every lap faster and faster and was using this session to set-up a good chassis for the weekend. In his last stint the young talent rider finish on an eleventh position.
Between the two free practices sessions the data was analyzed and the team changed the suspension of the Aprilia RSA. It immediately worked out in the second session of the Friday. Salom rode halfway though the session automatically faster lap times than the morning session and was continuous around the top 10. In the last fifteen the Spaniard managed to climb into the top 10 and pressed in the final minutes of the session a number of fast laps out and closed the session off to a respectable sixth position.
Luis Salom (6th, 1:44.850): “This afternoon it went really well! We have a lot of data collected in the morning session and after we had watched this data, the team decided to try a different setting. This worked out good and I got a better feeling with the bike than in the morning. I can ride continuous fast lap times and I’m very pleased with the difference to the top 3, which is not so big. I only have to give in 0.4 seconds to the second man Efren Vazquez. There’s more in and with a few small changes I will be able to improve my lap time. Now see what the other riders will do tomorrow in the free practice and qualifying session but I know for sure that I will finish these sessions at least in the top eight. My goal for the qualification session is the second row but this means I have to finish this session into the top 6. I’m looking forward for tomorrow and I will give everything to get a good starting place for Sunday’s race! ”
