Mapfre riders highly satisfied with Aragon test, Simon breaks circuit record
Same scenario, same characters. This morning the 125cc and Moto2 teams have gathered again at the Motorland Aragon track to continue working during a private test which has just finished. The heat has returned to be a faithful companion for the riders on track and most have focused the bulk of their work on the morning session, from 9.30 to 13.30 o’clock. The Moto2 riders also turned in the afternoon, although many of them called it a day before 17.30 o’clock, the closing time set for the track. One name was above the rest, the one of Julian Simon who has gone eight tenths quicker than the lap record (1’55.00).
MAPFRE Aspar rider Julian Simon left the Motorland track energetic and with tremendous motivation for the next Grand Prix. Far from doing many changes to his bike, the rider from Villacañas today sought to improve some details to perfect the chassis. With good feelings he has pushed hard from the first run and found a magnificent pace. Shortly before 13.30 o’clock he posted his fastest lap (1’54.20), eight tenths below the record. Julian also improved his laptimes from the first day and again concluded the session as the fastest rider at Motorland. Also his teammate Xavi Fores left the circuit highly motivated. The rider from Llombay developed the aerodynamics of his bike and gained confidence through the corners, a factor that ultimately led him to improve his fastest laptime from yesterday by seven tenths.
Julian Simon 1’54.20 (54 laps): “I am very pleased with the work we’ve done these two days at Motorland. It’s a track I love and which I found extremely comfortable from the start. Our goal for these two days was to refine the feeling with the chassis of the bike, and we more than succeeded. We’ve had time to test many changes and determine the best solutions. Both the team and I have managed to sort out the less beneficial options and we are very pleased with the results. For this and also because of the strong pace set during the two days. After this test our motivation is sky high, so we will go to Montmeló with an overwhelming aspiration.”
Xavi Fores 1’55.70 (63 laps): “The day went quite well. I’m happy because we improved our time from yesterday. Today we have done several tests to improve braking and continued trying to improve aerodynamics. The solutions we found are positive, we improved the cornering and I managed to be more consistent in every lap. Overall I finish this test as a happy rider because every time I’m more comfortable which is essential to go into the next Grand Prix.”
