Cardus shows his talent in wet conditions

QMMF Racing Team riders Mishal Al-Naimi and Ricky Cardús battled difficult conditions in qualifying for the Italian Motorcycle Grand Prix, but were rewarded with satisfying results. Fighting for a good lap time on a track that was first wet and then slowly started to dry. But Cardús, the 23-year-old Spaniard from Barcelona, got quickly up to speed and even held 12th place towards the end, but was pushed back to 17th in the frantic dying seconds of the session.

“At first the bike felt heavy, so I returned to the box. Then a dry line appeared on the track and the bike felt softer, so I had to re-enter to change the setting. But at the right point we made the right decisions. We continue to improve our way of working and we are going in the right direction. Tomorrow I want to finish the race and gain experience. After that things should be somewhat easier because we have tracks I already know from last year. I am convinced I will move forward and improve from this point. We knew it would be complicated, this is the world championship, not the Spanish Championship.”

Luis Solano, team coordinator: It’s Ricky’s first race here and the Mugello circuit is quite difficult to master in wet conditions. To qualify in 17th place is a clear demonstration of his talent and we are very happy with this result. We now look forward to tomorrow because we know he can grow even further in the race.”
