Polyccio to start Italian Grand Prix from second row

 In Moto2, News

Pol Espargaro managed sixth place in qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix, the fast and technical circuit of Mugello and in a session marked by rain. Tomorrow he will face the race from the second row of the grid, so far his best result of the season. The Tuenti Racing rider, who was the fastest in the wet conditions at Assen, improved his time steadily and finally was just half a second shy of the first row and repeating the result of the first day on dry asphalt. The weather forecast for tomorrow shows intense heat and Polyccio and the team are calm because they have proven to be competitive in all conditions, but they will need a good start and catch up with the front group. The race starts at 12.00 local time.

“The qualifying has been difficult, because we rode in the wet and so far we only had dry conditions. I’ve gradually gained confidence, but did not risk too much, because I didn’t want to crash and ruin the entire session. With two laps to go I decided to push to the limit and get a good position on the grid and I think this sixth place does the work and the pace justice we did during the three dry practice sessions. I think I’m a bit off the pace of Marc Marquez and Stefan Bradl, but I am a born fighter and I will try to start well and quickly get the fast pace that allows to get close to the lead and at least repeat the sixth place from practice. I want to thank the team for their excellent work, not just in this race, to help me be competitive in Moto2.”
