Pol Espargaro takes giant step forward to qualify for third row start
Pol Espargaro has improved his laptime from yesterday by almost three seconds and progressed 14 places in the qualifying for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, securing a start from the third row on the grid.
This is the second-best qualifying result for the HP Tuenti Moto2 rider, second only to the sixth-place finish at Mugello. Polyccio has taken advantage of some setup changes after a Friday to forget and at some points of the session even held on to second and third position, giving them up only in the closing stages, but leaving with a good feeling.
The Moto2 race at Indianapolis will begin at 12.15PM local time and the first goal of Pol Espargaro will be to get points and after that thinking of the top 10 and more ambitious goals.
7. Pol Espargaro, 1’44.785
“What a difference to yesterday! I have improved my time by three seconds, 1.5 seconds this morning, and at last I’ve found myself riding comfortable. We have made many changes to the bike, I’ve changed my riding in some points and the result has been that we could fight to the finish for a place in the first two rows of the grid. I’m happy with how things went, but we must keep working because we can not celebrate anything yet. Also, I have some discomfort with the left foot and I can not change gears smoothly, so in addition to working on the telemetry for the race setting I have to go to the Clinica Mobile to put myself in the hands of the physiotherapists. Indianapolis is a track I like, here I won my first race in the 125cc championship and hopefully it will give me a new joy now in Moto2.”
