Clutch problem ruins Espargaro’s podium chances at Misano

 In Moto2, News

After steadily progressing throughout the weekend, the morning warmup at Misano gave a bit of extra confidence to Pol Espargaro, finishing the session in second place and with an excellent pace.
Achieving the second consecutive podium was the goal for the HP Tuenti rider, but everything was ruined when in the sighting lap on the way to the grid it showed that the clutch was jumping and there was no time for repair. Polyccio made a good start from third row, not giving up any positions and staying within the Top 10, but the mechanical problem got worse and cost him a few tenths a lap which left him with no chance to repeat the podium from last Sunday in Indianapolis.
Pol Espargaro finished ninth after passing Italian Simone Corsi in the last lap and added seven points to his tally, which places him 17th overall. Now he is waiting for the race in two weeks at Motorland Aragon, where he is the only Spanish winner from last year in 125cc.

9. Pol Espargaro: “I could have been on the podium and everything has gone to hell when we saw on the grid that the clutch bounced a lot and there was a possibility that I couldn’t even finish the race. It was a shame because I had done some good practice sessions and the warmup and had an excellent pace, almost like Marquez and Bradl. In the race I started well and I didn’t lose positions, but it was impossible to go faster and it was almost torture to have the leading group in my sight and I can not do anything to get close to them. These things happen in racing and I know clearly not to dwell on that any longer and just start to think about the race at Motorland Aragon, where last year I got the victory and this year I would like to fight for a repeat. I’m slowly adapting to being a Moto2 rider and from here to the end of the season the goal is to always be in the top group.”
