Difficult weekend for Espargaro comes to unlucky end
The Pons HP 40 riders had very bad luck this afternoon in the Moto2 race of the Grand Prix of San Marino which took place this weekend at Misano. Aleix Espargaro had to retire on lap 14, not being able to push any more on track after breaking the clutch of his bike.
The World Championship will rest a week to meet again on the 16th of September for the Aragon Grand Prix at the Motorland circuit.
#40. Aleix Espargaro: “The clutch broke. The bike was a bit better than yesterday, we decided to change the settings and return to those from Brno, where I did more or less a good race. I struggled a bit to pass, but I managed to overtake slower riders, I started pushing and I reached Lüthi and my brother. I didn’t feel comfortable enough to really fight, but I felt better than yesterday. And suddenly the clutch started to fail: when I let it go I lost the engine brake, sometimes when I let it go the engine brake was really strong and I’ve ran wide twice because of this. I nearly crashed, I tried to pull the clutch but every time the brake did what it wanted, it was impossible to go on like this and I had to pit in.”
