Miguel Oliveira out of world championship for rest of the season
Portugal’s first ever full-time rider in the MotoGP world championship has prematurely ended his first season and will no longer participate in the Grand Prix of Japan.
The team Miguel Oliveira competed with – Team Machado – unilaterally canceled the contract which signed the rider until the end of the 2012 season.
This sudden contract termination has taken the rider by surprise as he always fully complied with the contract and always gave his best in the sport
Although he has already received some offers from other teams to finish this season, their technical conditions can’t give sufficient guarantees to be competitive. Therefore, the rider and his manager decided to put an end to this season, leaving open the possibility of accepting any of the received proposals for next season.
Miguel Oliveira: “This weekend I felt that something strange was going on. By Thursday afternoon I had not received the team’s travel plan, which meant I had to travel by car to the circuit of Aragon, in order to arrive on time. My mechanics were surprised that I just arrived at the circuit on Friday morning, but I never expected to get the termination of my contract sent by letter the same day, without any of the leaders of Team Machado telling my anything.
I want to take this opportunity to thank my personal sponsors, my mechanics and my fans, who always gave me their support, as well as the Team Machado which gave me the opportunity to be the first Portuguese to participate in this championship.”
