Olivé makes solid start at Australian Grand Prix
The sun was shining today at Phillip Island, creating a perfect day for the first two practice sessions which were only overshadowed by the many crashes in the Moto2 class.
Aeroport de Castello rider Joan Olivé gradually improved, as he usually does, finally clocking a laptime of 1’36.438, a little over 2 seconds off the fastest time from Stefan Bradl.
Tomorrow the rider and his team hope to continue their line of work and get even closer to the times of the lead group to fight for a good grid position which will be the key to Sunday’s race.
JOAN OLIVE: “This circuit is totally different from Japan, you have to completely change the mentality of the heavy braking in Motegi to get used to the fast corners of Phillip Island. To do that it is necessary to completely change the geometry of the bike and this morning we did have a bike that finally worked very well in the corners. In the afternoon we made more changes and improved a little more. I’m happy with the work we are doing and tomorrow we hope to improve even more if we follow this way and the weather doesn’t change like the forecast predicts.”
