Espargaro to start from 11th position as rain cuts qualifying short

 In Moto2, News

In a qualifying session marred by rain which allowed the Moto2 riders only very few effective laps, Aleix Espargaró set the eleventh fastest time.
The journey of the HP Pons 40 team started with Axel Pons’ decision not to continue in the Grand Prix of Valencia with which the rider has ended a difficult season with various injuries.
Without Pons in the qualifying, the full weight of the team has fallen on Aleix Espargaró, who was able to get a good result despite the difficult conditions the Moto2 riders encountered.
Espargaró, who has only completed four laps, finished with the eleventh fastest time in the final qualifying of the season, which puts him on the fourth row of the grid, in a race where he hopes to get a good result to round off his first season in the category.

#40. Aleix Espargaró: °11 – 1’38″633
“It’s a shame we had to complete the Moto2 qualifying like this, especially because it will be a while until we return to have one. I think I could have ended up in a better position, even fighting for the first row, because today the bike worked very well. Anyway, despite the negative it is not a bad result, so I set the goal to fight for the podium. This morning I rode very comfortable, also at the end I put on the theoretically harder tyre and I could not improve my time. In the afternoon, in four laps I’ve improved, so I hope to be in the battle for the top three positions.”
