Espargaro only completing eight laps and hoping for better weather conditions
After an intense first day of testing at Jerez yesterday today provided a stark contrast as dark skies, high winds and intermittent rain prevented the teams and riders from making any meaningful progress. In fact, the unmistakable growl of MotoGP machinery was not heard until the afternoon when the majority of riders took the opportunity to test their wet settings but little else.
This was the first opportunity the POWER ELECTRONICS Aspar riders have had to test their ART machines on a wet track and with just sixteen laps between them in total their work was largely limited to the garage. Randy and Aleix had an extensive programme planned but the weather put paid to that and limited them to just a few wet laps. They took the opportunity to try some different engine mappings and traction control settings with positive results.
Aleix Espargaró 1.57.718 (8 laps): “Track conditions were poor today and we did most of our work in the garage. This was our first chance to test this bike in the wet and it was a good opportunity to test some different maps. Randy tried them first and then me. The traction control system seems to work well in the wet. We also set the second bike up but we were limited to just eight laps in total so hopefully we get better conditions tomorrow.”
