Barbera back in the top ten in season opener
The 2012 MotoGP first race at Qatar saw Hèctor Barberà cross the finish line in 9th place. After a mediocre start which relegated him to 12th position, the Spaniard was able to pass three riders to get back into the top ten. Hèctor’s goal ahead of the race was to be the first Ducati rider over the line and he fought a lot to tead the group including Alvaro Bautista, Stefan Bradl and Nicky Hayden who were all fighting for the 6th place. In the final laps, trying to get to the front of the group, Hèctor made a mistake and ran off track which lost him some positions.
But during this first race weekend of the season the Pramac team has improved its work day by day and developed a strong relationship with Hèctor Barberà.
The next MotoGP round will take place in Jerez de la Frontera, the first European race of the 2012 season.
Hèctor Barberà: “Overall *I’m happy with the result of the race. I enjoyed riding here a lot. It’s a shame about the bad start, because my race pace was around 5th or 6th position. When I fought for 6th position I made a mistake, ran off track and lost some positions. My GP12 had a good setting for this race and I could have ended up as the first Ducati rider if i didn’t make the mistake. Anyway, my feeling with this bike is very positive and I’m sure that during the season I’m going to be able to achieve some consistent results. The next race is in two weeks in Jerez where we have worked well during the winter test so I’m confident about it.”
