Jorge Lorenzo was a very happy Spaniard after surprisingly taking pole and then unexpectedly snatching the win from Casey Stoner.
Moto2 became the usual festival of passes and hard overtakes which it has been known for since its debut season 2010.
Álvaro Bautista turned a horrible weekend around to a decent seventh place finish in the race.
Last year’s “Rookie of the Year” Maverick Vinales did what was expected of him and won the inaugural race of the new Moto3 class.
But he had a good handful of work to do while trying to fight off this year’s prime candidate for best Rookie, Italian youngster Romano Fenati.
Much like in the case of Bautista, almost everything went wrong for Dani Pedrosa at Qatar until he took home a deserved second place in the race.
