Rodriguez battles back to 20th position after dismal start
The Moto2 race of the Gran Premio bwin de España at Jerez was cut short by nine laps due to rain setting in again. Following the red flag, the final race positions were determined by the last completed lap, so the race officially ended after lap 17.
Ángel Rodríguez is sure that if it hadn’t been for the rain he’d have been able to fight for 16th or 17th, but instead he had to settle for 20th place, therefore losing his chances to achieve his goal which was to score points at his home round for the Moto2 championship.
20.ÁNGEL RODRÍGUEZ (DESGUACES LA TORRE SAG TEAM // FTR), 30’50.328:
“It’s been a difficult race today at Jerez. In the Moto3 race you could see that the race line had various wet patches, but seeing it on TV and riding on it is a big difference. As for the start, I made a mistake there, the rear wheel was going away a lot and in the first corner I was second-last, so I had to recover. Little by little I passed the riders in front of me and I think it would have been possible to move up to 16th if it hadn’t been for the rain. 20th position is not what we want, but it’s not a bad result considering how the weekend was going.”
